22.05.2019 - With the assistance of the New Zealand Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA), St. Peter Chanel Catholic College of Secondary Teacher has deployed a world-class teaching and learning platform using Microsoft 365. Although the College and VSA were already in the process of implementing the E-leaning platform, COVID-19 sped up the implementation.
The E-learning platform brings academic, administrative, and cost-savings benefits to the College, students, and the government. For the students, the e-learning environment gives them access to all Microsoft Office Applications, Education, and Collaboration Software. This means that students and their families do not have to worry about the high cost of purchasing software. Most importantly, students will be able to improve their digital skills and learning outcomes. It also means that students will be proficient with most of the software used in the modern work environment.
The online teaching and learning environment comes with enterprise-grade security and reliability. For teachers, the new system allows them to work smarter, unlock students’ creativity and potentials, and provide more personalised learning experiences and support.
The Programme Manager for VSA, Johannes Gambo, says that St Peter Chanel is the first institution to implement the system. He added that they are working with other educational institutes to ensure that students have the same access to the world-class learning platform and associated benefits. He said that “research has shown that a well-implemented and trusted digital learning platform can improve the quality of education, reduce administrative burden, lower cost, and deliver better educational outcomes”.
VSA New Zealand is very active in the community supporting mothers to make soaps and youths to build toilets, enabling improvement in hygiene and sanitation.
